Piece of Mind

Recently we received a package from NoirCat. It is the basket that she was kept in as a baby, and it contained two special items for Maggie to remember her by. NoirCat requested that we deliver it to her as a goodbye to help give Maggie some peace of mind. The basket can be seen below.

First, she left her a letter explaining it all. The letter can be seen below, and reads:

My Dear, Dark Maggie,
I’m sorry I left, but I had to. I needed a break and this was the only way. I could no longer take the objectification from you and the DS106 community. You all made what I am into a joke. You turned who I am into a specific thought, feeling, and genre. But, like the concept of noir, I am none of those; I am so much more. Our relationship was abused and beaten down to a point where it hurt to be with you. So, I left. It means the world to me that you went through all the trouble you did in order to find me, but I can’t come back. You’re not ready and neither am I. I thought I could just spend a few days away to figure out my true feelings, but it wasn’t enough. Therefore, I have, with the help of my new friends the Black Widow Agency, decided to take an indefinite vacation.
Do not blame yourself as you are not the sole reason for me leaving. I will miss you my friend. But keep close the memories we have made throughout the years. Please keep in mind the feelings of the next NoirCat. I hope that she will have a better experience than I did and only be given the love and community of the Noir/DS106 family. Take care of Daphne for me!
With love,
Meowdred (NoirCat)

The second thing NoirCat sent for Maggie was a few pictures of herself to let Maggie know that she was happy in her new home and doing well. In these pictures, NoirCat removed her disguise. This was done under our advice/supervision so that no one would recognize her there taking these pictures and no one who saw the pictures would know her new identity of Ivanna. The three pictures we deemed acceptable to give to Maggie because they wouldn’t give too much away, are below. NoirCat took them at various sites and locations while traveling around her new home.

Unfortunately, the BWA had an addition to the basket, which included an invoice for Maggie. Although we are good friends with both her and NoirCat, our services and work time cannot be freely given out. Grandma did, however, consign to letting us waive the Results and Findings fee, which seemed very fair after we took on NoirCat as our client and had to dismiss Maggie’s case. The invoice, and last item in the basket, is below.

Let Me See Your PussPort at the Gate!

If this agency knows one thing, they know how to make someone disappear. That is exactly why we had to discontinue our services for Maggie Black and take on NoirCat as our new client. Considering all of the degradation and objectification that she faced as being part of the DS106 community, she decided that she could not and would not return. She could not even fathom the idea of returning to a community that merely uses her “pretty face” to put on cards, photos, and many other assignments. Black Widow Agency will not stand for this kind of treatment of women, so we decided to help NoirCat, or should I say Ivanna Befree! That is her new name and identity, as Julia James constructed a  “PussPort” for Ivanna that will be used to send her to Japan. At this location, there are many cat sanctuaries and homes that will respect her beauty, as well as her brains. Julia also helped to changed her physical identity by dying part of her hair white and giving her an outfit that would allow her to fit in with the cats in Japan. She doesn’t even look like the same cat anymore! By designing the “PussPort” and changing Ivanna’s appearance, Julia has completed Phase One of our Case #002 The Transfer of NoirCat. Ivanna Befree will be much happier in Japan, as she will be free to do what her heart desires!

Case Files: Photography

Some of the most important parts of this case were from the photography we were able to capture first hand at the locations where NoirCat was sighted. During our investigation, we compiled all of our photos that we took and placed them into a classified file for future use. Now that the case is coming to a close, we can officially release them all to the public and announce that we had taken these photos based on where we visited.

Screen Shot 2015-04-19 at 11.17.10 AM These photos were taken in downtown Fredericksburg where we had found cat hair evidence which matched the DNA of NoirCat. We identified a hole in the building where she could have been staying. However, there were no signs of her.17115222566_73e72356d8_n17141168215_026a9c56b5_n16953621770_0e7da0a5c8_n

We received an anonymous tip to go to the “Cat’s Closet” in downtown Fredericksburg, when, upon arriving, we noticed multiple cats in the location. We immediately directed ourselves towards the back of the store and caught a glimpse of a black cat slinking out the back door. Edie was able to snap a picture before we lost her. Sources confirmed that the tail was NoirCat’s.

After following NoirCat’s trail through evidence, tips, and hunches. We final found the safe house she had been living in. This is also where we did our final interview to get her side of the story. We captured a photo of the house before we approached it.

These photos allowed us to document our trail on NoirCat and also provides us with hard copy evidence of our case.

NoirCat: The Interview

As previously stated, we have found NoirCat! After following her trail from the “Cat’s Closet”, we found a series of soft paws that led us directly to a house in a neighborhood of downtown Fredericksburg. We went inside and found NoirCat, alone and visibly upset, sitting by a window in the house. Julia James stayed to interview her, while the rest of the agency members left to assess the situation. Julia was connected with a feline translator through an ear bud, in order to understand NoirCat as she responded. She was able to get a lot out of the distressed cat. Check it out for yourself:

As it turns out, NoirCat faked her own disappearance, as she feels objectified by the DS106 community of which Maggie is a part. With the help of Daphne, she escaped from Maggie’s watch, in order to assess her feelings and ultimately decided that she can never return. Regrettably, we will inform Ms. Maggie Black of the situation and explain to her that, while we would love to be able to return NoirCat to her, we must see to it that she never feels objectified again. First and foremost, we are an agency that stands for the liberation of females in degrading circumstances, which includes cats. We can not ethically return this poor feline to the same community that she desires to escape so much. We will assure Ms. Black that NoirCat will be placed into a home where she is loved, healthy, happy, and appreciated for her brains as much as her beauty. This interview gave us the information that we needed to crack the case, which is now officially closed. On to Case #002…The Transfer of NoirCat.

Anonymous Tip

After much research and a tad bit of computer hacking by Julia James, we have recovered the anonymous email that was sent to our agency email account on the afternoon of Monday April 13. It had mysteriously disappeared from our Inbox thirty seconds after we received it, and we have been unable to find it until now. Julia is still unable to obtain access to the email account, as it appears to not exist anymore. Although this tip is awfully mysterious, we are certainly grateful for the person who sent it. We were unsure where to go from the lack of evidence in the abandoned building, so this tip was a lifesaver!

The contents of the email are as follows: “BWA, … Go to the Cat’s Closet now. Don’t question this email or my anonymity…just go! The address is … 819 Caroline Street Fredericksburg, VA 22401 … It will be worth the trip, I promise. … Anonymous”

As an agency, we want to send a heartfelt thank you to the sender of this email. It was a major piece of the case that has led us to finding NoirCat.

Evidence #05

As we followed our leads in the search for NoirCat, we came upon an interesting trail of some tiny red plastic things that one of our agents was able to identify as “soft paws.” They are similar to nail polish for cats and can be seen below on NoirCat.

cat soft paws

We believe she left these as a trail for us to follow. Below is a picture of some of the soft paws found on the scene. Others were more scattered, leading us on a trail through a neighborhood in Fredericksburg.

We collected 10 in total, which is accurate because as we later were told, they were only on her 10 front toes. We collected the soft paws for evidence and returned to BWA headquarters to take a further look at them. While inspecting them we immediately noticed that letters were etched into at least one side of each one. We knew the spelled something and we were being sent a message. After a short period, we were able to decode the message. Below is a picture taken of all the soft paws together just before we unscrambled.

The unscrambling lead us to the message “Don’t Find Me.” Which leads us to ask, is someone trying to get us to stop looking for NoirCat? Are they framing her? How much trouble is she really in? Hopefully our search will be successful in getting these as well as other answers and returning NoirCat to Maggie and her DS106 family.

Scenes and Leads

We now feel an appropriate amount of time has passed from our investigation at the abandoned building that we can share photos of the site. Below are some different views of the building. We believe NoirCat may have spent one if not a few nights here during her first few days away from Maggie. But we have yet to figure out who was keeping her here.

After receiving an anonymous tip, we visited the store “Cat’s Closet” on Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg. Here we spoke to the store attendant and began to interview one of the cat’s before hearing a strange noise. We followed the noise to find NoirCat escaping out the Employees Only exit. Our pursuit was futile– we quickly lost her despite having been just on her tail. We then reconvened our interview with the cat but he would not give up anything. We will be bringing in a cat-body language interpreter to help give us clues based on his physical responses to our questions. We will share the video of this interview at a later time. However, we can now share the photo we were able to obtain of her fleeing the “Cat’s Closet.”

Meowdred can be seen just leaving through the kitty-door. Shortly after this photo was taken, we lost her.

Stay tuned for our next update.

Evidence #03

Upon further investigation in the home of Groom and Daphne, we came across a small, suspicious black box that rested among old gaming equipment. It was cracked open and inside it was a large computer chip and a magnet. It wouldn’t have seemed suspicious without the animal fur that was visible around it. We believe this could have been used to deactivate NoirCat’s microchip. Edie photographed the box where it was found to document it as evidence. The box can be seen in the photo below, inside the red circle. After we confirm the box was used on the microchip, we will add it to the suspect board. It currently ties back to both Groom and Daphne.

Evidence #02

We have uncovered a new piece of evidence! Upon further examination of the scene of the disappearance, we decided that is was smart to interview Daphne. We know what you all are thinking…why would they interview a dog? Well, we actually hired a canine translator to help us. As Julia James conducted the interview, our translator kept feeding her Daphne’s answers through an ear bud. Although she was a bit short and rude to Julia, we have reason to believe that her answers are all truthful. Below is the interview transcript:

Julia: Well, hello Daphne. I’m Julia James.

Daphne: *Growls

Julia: I want to ask you a few questions about NoirCat. So, I’ll start by saying, I know you’re a dog and she’s a cat, and things can get pretty heated there. But I’m going to try to keep an open mind. So I’m going to ask you, once for the record, what’s your relationship with NoirCat?

Daphne: We are friends! Actually, we are best friends!

Julia: Oh friends, huh? I’m not sure I buy it! But anyway, why did we find the ransom note at your house?

Daphne: Because I ate it! I was hungry, okay?!

Julia: Okay then? Well, I guess my next question is…what do you know about Maggie Black and her relationship with NoirCat?

Daphne: She doesn’t hate Maggie! But she does hate some community she’s a part of…I think it’s called DS106.

Julia: We will be sure to look into that. But with the little that you gave us to go on, how do you expect us to find your friend?

Daphne: Trust me, you shouldn’t find her. That’s all I’m saying.
